 Creator (1985)

Take a 19-year old nymphomaniac, an eccentric Nobel Laureate university professor, a hormone-driven graduate student with dreams and a wooden robot, an unachievable love interest and mix them together! What you get is a combination of magic and chaos. This film was made in 1985 but does not show its age! The screenplay was written by Jeremy Leven who also wrote the book 'Creator'. This is always a good sign. It was directed by Ivan Passer (who didn't direct anything else that I've heard of). It stars Peter O'Toole, Mariel Hemingway, Vincent Spano, Virginia Madsen, David Ogden Stiers (the bad guy) and a bunch of other people. I have never been a giant fan (or even a midget fan) of Mariel Hemingway but in this film she shines and exudes a natural sensuality from every pore of her body (no kidding). She donates her eggs so that Peter O'Toole (the eccentric professor) can clone his long-dead wife. Vincent Spano and Virginia Madsen are (of course) the young lovers. David Ogden Stiers is after the grant money, the power and the prestige. He does everything by the book while Peter O'Toole wrote the book that David neglected to read. A lot of thoughts about God but no preaching. You have magic, religion, love, death, penguins and THE BIG PICTURE! There is one explosion but no car chases.
