Blood & Donuts (1995)

"In 1969 Man walked on the moon and Boya crawled into a bag."

Boya is awakened 25 years later by an errant golf ball. The golf ball travels with him throughout the entire movie. Boya is a vampire who believes that vampirism is an addiction and he can just say "NO!". Do you remember the "Friends" episode where they selected the top five actresses or actors that they would like to sleep with? After I saw this movie, Boya (Gordon Currie) became my number five (the five are not necessarily in order) and then I laminated my card! I think you will see why. Boya is a bat of a different color. The moon appears to be full all of the time! It seems right.

Earl (Justin Lewis) drives a dilapidated cab. He picks up a disheveled man carrying a shovel (Boya) and takes him to a cemetery! Brave cabbie. Boya needs to dig up his belongings. Earl tends to add an "s" to almost every word he utters which gives him an intriguing accent. Earl also has two bad guys who are after him for some unknown reason. These guys are like the evil two stooges and Stephen (David Cronenberg) is their somewhat smarter boss. He has a 'bowling shoe rule'. "You do not make a mark in this world by letting people walk all over you."

Bernie (J. Winston Carroll) owns a small donut shop in a very 'dark' part of town. Molly (Helene Clarkson) works the counter. Boya, Earl, Molly and the bad guys are the main characters in this movie and the donut shop is where they all come together. Boya befriends Earl and falls in love with Molly.

There are some scenes in this movie that are the most sensual and erotic scenes that I have ever experienced...with NO nudity! Don't get me wrong, I don't mind nudity but it is amazing what you can do without it. Pay close attention to the scenes where Boya is in the bathtub in his flea bag hotel and Molly is sleeping at home in her bed. Holly Dale directed this movie and she should be given some great award for 'erotica' on screen!

The big budget Hollywood vampire movie, "Interview with the Vampire", came out one year before "Blood & Donuts". I don't know about you but I got nothing from "Interview with the Vampire". "Blood & Donuts" enthralled me! Gordon Currie plays Boya with an innocent, endearing charm and incredible sexuality.

The music throughout this movie is great! The music composer is "Nash the Slash"! How could I resist that?

Be sure to stay through the credits...there is a tad more movie at the end!
