"Everything's got a moral, if only you can find it"
Lewis Carroll - "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"
I have this thing about Australian movies and this one is just delicious! This movie takes place within a 24-hour period at a university in Melbourne following the trials and tribulations of several close friends. Mia (Frances O'Connor) has put off changing professors until the last possible minute. Mia's lover Dani (Radha Mitchell) is feeling neglected and has started hanging out with Savita (Suzy Dougherty) who has become Dani's silent shadow. Ari (Matthew Dyktynski) is paying his university tuition by 'servicing' wealthy women. All of the girls on campus also want to bonk him and Ari is definitely bonkable! Michael (Matt Day from "Muriel's Wedding") lives with a bunch of party animals who aren't human...they never sleep. Michael's search for new living arrangements is simply hysterical. Alice (Alice Garner) has been writing a thesis that is four years overdue. Alice's thesis is "Doris Day: Feminist Warrior". Need I say more?
Mia's fight with university red tape and the political infighting between professors is so true that you wonder how any university student manages to learn anything. Professor Leech is Mia's current professor. He is addicted to donuts and is currently in the middle of a custody battle with his ex-wife for his dog. The donuts prove to be his demise and we assume his ex-wife keeps his dog.
The music throughout this movie is good, especially the remake of "Let's Do It" at the end! If you are currently attending college, a lot of this will probably ring hilariously true. If your university days are long gone...this will take you back to the innocence of that time in your life. "We love because it's the only true adventure."...Nikki Giovanni.
