There are different kinds of love affairs. Homer and Eddie definitely had a love affair. A love affair does not necessarily involve sex.

There is something about misplaced people and something about road trips that fascinate me. I will take them together or apart as long as the story intrigues me. In this movie, I get both. These are two incredibly wounded human beings who come together for better or for worse and take off across country.

Homer leaves home with $87.00 and a suitcase to go to see his parents.

Homer (James Belushi) and Eddie (Whoopi Goldberg) meet in a junk yard when they both wake up in her Lincoln Continental! A very odd thing...this car seems to change color throughout the movie! Watch it go from green to lavender (and various colors in between)!

Eddie (short for Edwina) is sure that the $87.00 stolen from Homer belongs to HER. She and Homer then begin their trip from Arizona to Oregon. Homer's brain stems (just quoting) were knocked loose by a baseball when he was 12 years old and Eddie has an inoperable brain tumor. They are perfectly paired!

Eddie gives Homer the gift of "pussy" (not hers) and this is a very touching experience. Karen Black has a great cameo in this part of the film. This is part of what I mean by a love affair without sex.

Homer has been physically removed from the family portrait and Eddie's mother is sitting in a cemetary waiting to die. There is also a blonde, a guinea pig and the polka!

Homer says "You can't see Jesus. He's been invisible since he was dead." In spite of that, you should watch for Jesus.

The dancing scenes on the pier with Homer and Eddie are priceless and the soundtrack never loses track!
