Fear of a Black Hat (1993)
Yo...the warning! This is a fake-documentary film by Nina Blackburn about a gangsta rap group called "NWH" which stands for Niggaz With Hats! Yo...right. The members of this gangsta rap group are Tone Def (Mark Christopher Lawrence), Tasty Taste (Larry B. Scott) and Ice Cold (Rusty Cundieff). I think you are getting the drift! This movie is an extremely clever play on the rivalry between gangsta rap groups, white rap, political commentary, police brutality, censorship and the music industry. Rusty Cundieff wrote and directed this movie which could be called "Spinal Rap" as it nails rap music the same way "Spinal Tap" nailed heavy metal!

At one point, the police tell NWH (before a live concert) that they will go to jail if they rap "grab your dick"! They compromise their artistic integrity (just for that night) and rap "grab your stuff" while they are grabbing their dicks. Their hats begin to resemble something out of Dr. Seuss books!

The gay dance instructor is NOT to be missed. See if you can count how many socks he has crammed into his leotard!

NWH has an unreleased album called "Kill Whitey" and their other controversial albums are "My Peanuts" and "Booty Juice". "Fear of a Black Hat" is their latest album release. This movie pokes fun at everyone and everything.

The theory behind the name of their group "NWH" is that slaves did not own hats and working in the sun all day (without hats) sapped their energy so that they could not rebel against their masters.

NWH has a bit of a problem with managers. Their last five managers have been killed. They tend to pick white managers for the good of the black population. They are also the first gangsta rap group to carry live weapons on stage while performing. This is for protection because their audiences have pulled weapons on them.

Kurt Loder of MTV gives a wonderful impression of himself with newsbreaks about NWH. I will abstain about references to Yoko Ono but I couldn't help thinking about that while watching this movie. There is a woman who causes the breakup of this group. I am not sure that it would help to put a condom on your gun.

It's da bomb! And I went around saying "Damn Skippy" for about a week. Mighty fine for a white girl.
