Cherry 2000 (1987)
This is an hysterically fun escapist movie set in the far future where all appliances are being recycled and the perfect mate is a sex robot. At least it is for the men. They don't get into the male sex robots. Too bad.

Sam Treadwell (David Andrews) is ecstatically happy with his Cherry 2000 model (Pamela Gidley). Why wouldn't he be? No complaining...just complying! Cherry has so many different meanings and they all apply here. However, Sam loses his dream girl when she goes through a total meltdown on the kitchen floor while being submerged in soapy dish water and she is wearing those hideous yellow rubber gloves! They are making love at this time and the sparks are not the kind that Sam wanted. He is left with just her chip and now he needs a new Cherry 2000 chassis. These are not that easy to find.

Sam needs to find a tracker to take him into Zone 7 to retrieve an exact Cherry 2000 model. These are in the robot graveyard. This is dangerous territory under any circumstances. Sam goes from Anaheim to Glory Hole (more different meanings) to meet E. Johnson...an infamous tracker. E. Johnson (Melanie Griffith) is literally a fireball in this movie and this matches the color of her hair. I would die to own her red Ford Mustang with the nerf bar on the front! Sam (of course) expected the tracker to be a man. There begins the tale! "There's a lot more to love than hot wiring."

Lester (Tim Thomerson) literally rules the desert and has his own cult town called "Sky Ranch". His girlfriend Ginger is played by Cameron Milzer ("Chopper Chicks in Zombietown") with exquisite cunning. I was never sure whether she was a real chick or a robot chick! Do you want a sandwich? If you're dead...you don't get one!

There are a number of great cameos in this movie. Ben Johnson is 'Six Fingered Jake' and has a wonderful collection of toaster ovens. Literally walls of them. "There ain't nuthin' like it for cookin' rattler!" Yum.

The sex robots are stored in old Las Vegas which is mainly covered in sand dunes at this point. This is where the antagonists finally meet up. And Cherry goes to find Sam a Pepsi. But I am getting ahead of myself........

There are a whole lot of incredible stunts in this movie and it never bored me. It is totally tongue-in-cheek and should be enjoyed in that way. Just ignore the fact that Melanie Griffith's lips were much thinner in 1987 than they are in 1999! Meow....! Sorry but I just couldn't help myself.

Runtime: 1:38
