Mary re: ring on Catherines finger that was emerald and diamonds. Specifically mentioned in the will as being left to Nicki with all her other jewellery. Thought that a bit strange, not to leave your daughter ANY of your jewellery...but it was particularly mentioned that Nicki was to have the emerald and diamond ring that was a family heirlom being Catherines mothers.etc... However, if you look at the ring on Catherines hand it is a very MODERN design and not in the least bit aged looking. Any body wanna lay a $ that this is how our Catherine is identified as being Mrs. C down the road!!!! The rest of the will was no surprise even leaving her half of the house to Esther I expected. The funniest thing I thought was the 1/5th of 1 percent bequests!!! That was funny thought likely still a lot of money based on billions.

OMG Pinkie that is so cute about the bathroom rug!!

Toots I am so sorry for your loss, how can this still be happening in this modern age of technology and medicine? That is much too young to lose a loved one to a heart attack, and I am so sorry there were no warning signs or preventative medicine for your son.

Yesterday it was 70's in Denver, today the high is 32, go figure...

Is Colleen off the show?

TOOTS: May family and friends be your strength and comfort through the months ahead. Do lean on them. So sorry for your tragic loss; words can't express.

PINKIE: Just realized we both had a cat by the same name. Ours was just named Kitty Cat, then shortened to K.C. She was black as coal.

EMELIE: Jewel is very fortunate to have a mother who will go to the wall for her. Take some time for yourself now.

OMGoodness, I was laughing more than I've ever laughed out loud at Y&R since I started watching in '93 when Phyllis sees Sharon going from Nick's to Brad's arms....Please, I implore all of you if you haven't watched yesterday's episode, please watch it online just to see the look on Phyllis' face, it was delicious...

Moment between Lauren and Tracey was really really nice...

Did anyone notice they were playing "Cassie's theme" in the background when Noah gave Eden her necklace back?

They should not be getting rid of the actress that plays Eden IMO...I like her!

Murphy has not noticed the humongous rock, looks like a sapphire surrounded by diamonds, on Kay's hand yet...

Emelie--not hokey at all...the night my beloved Foofer slipped away, I knew it was his last night, and it was, and I slept on the floor with him...so glad I did. You know what that cat did? Before we fell asleep he could see my face right in front of him and he reached his paw out, the way cats do, as if to say thanks for everything.

Ohhh boy I should not have typed that, here come pregnancy hormones....

I'm currently on a computer in a library 1.5 hrs from my home (long story, involves Jewel) ...... hope this goes through okay.

Nurse Connie ....... pmp when I read your post about slipping off into the night .... my first thought is that you were talking about Don --- but thankfully you corrected, pmp pmp pmp.
To be honest, many many many years from now I hope that's how Don goes too. Every night I say goodnight to both Duke and Molly as though I won't get the chance to in the morning. too hokey of me?

When I was preggers with Jewel, I craved a few things --- I remember my mom was my hero because she found fresh bing cherries in January, lol at what we crave. Then I ate those little white sour onions non-stop, and to this day Jewel is hooked on dill pickles. And then I wanted chocolate pudding, and like most women she is a choc-a-holic.

Okay, gotta go. Helping my daughter dig out of this very deep hole that neanderthal man left her in, ........ which is why I'm not at home. We're waiting for hydro to turn on her power in her mobile, which she vacated in January. Loooooooooooooong story. Hopefully it will be turned on now.

later. have a great day, everyone. Can't BELIEVE how much snow there is up here, just 1.5 hrs north of where Don and I now live. Gotta admit, sure looks pretty.

Mary - I have actually heard another story where the cat jumped off a balcony but survived. Unfortunately my son lived 14 floors up. Poor thing landed on the 1st floor balcony. The lady who lived there was so upset too. Cat was still alive when my son got to her but like Pinkie, it died in his arms too. My DIL (as she is now), wanted to bury her right away so they headed off into the woods at midnight (she was working to 11pm that night). They took her to where my son buried all his childhood pets, hamsters, budgies, goldfish and that seemed to bring a lot of comfort to them both.....it really was like a member of the family died, the depth of pain and sorrow was incredible. They have since adopted another cat but it isnn't as cuddly and affectionate and it hates being housebound, loves to escape and wander the neighbourhood.

On Y&R...I was thinking Katherine might be a bit shocked right now and not yet fully coherent....then maybe she will PRETEND to have amnesia just to avoid going back and facing Jill and all the medical evaluations. Meanwhile like others have said, she will likely fall for Murphy....kinda like his personality, seems a sweet man.

Loved Jacks mental thoughts at the funeral...so honest!!! Did anyone else notice Nina at Gina's shoulder....playing "footsie" with the frills on her dress...bizarre and every shot had her still "fiddling" didn't quite get what that was all about.

Danny had quite the know all look watching Tracey and Lauren together....thought that was quite beautiful and I am sure made many a heart feel sad at school day memories.

Feel sorry for Adam....still see Heather as a money grabber. She will kick him to the curb as soon as he is broke again.

If Abbey comes back it would need to be as a teenager ....wonder how old they can make our current Abbey look!!!! I really like the job she does.

Also like Noah and Eden together but you have to admit most mothers would not want her anywhere near their sons.

Cactus ITA about grain free food...I finally switched from grocery store-bought kibble to grain free kibble mixed with beef chubs and the pets are probably a lot more healthy for it.

Frances good thinking, I didn't even think about, why doesn't Murphy notice that 'Marge' all of a sudden doesn't have her accent?.....duh!

Deb I was very surprised to hear your cat story, usually cats have such extraordinary balance and instinctively know how high up they are.....poor kitty!

ooooh, can hardly wait until the will is read -- i hope it knocks everyone's socks off (including all of ours, not just the characters')

i am getting hooked on the show again -- even had a rationalization for Katherine being okay after a few days in that swamp area and for murphy finding her, etc. -- marge did it all -- arranged for murphy to go to that place and prevented Mrs. C from dying --

it makes be laugh to even admit this . . . but i'm among friends, right ??

a buddy offered me a puppy today -- luckily it cost $250 -- we generally get our pets at the humane society and i don't mind paying whatever they want, but feel not so great spending money for a home-bred puppy -- these were all going to be sold, not put in a shelter, so i feel okay saying no -- i got rocky bob for free outside of a grocery store near our cabin -- gave the guy all the cash i had though because he was so sad at having to give the puppy away --

take care all of you with sad animal stories right now -- i'm in the same boat -- i framed rocky bob's paw print that caught me so off guard last week with a photo of the little sweetie . . . it helps

hugs all --

PINKIE: I had to look up up on the web to see what a Hemmingway looked like. Somehow I had never heard of that breed; they are adorable! We're all going to believe that he will be just fine. I'm glad you have a special pet to comfort you.

FRANCES: I am with you when Y & R gets so far-fetched. Lying in a cold river for days without hypothermia! I'm not sure about the voice thing, though. oohhh Pinkie, sooo very sorry about your kitten. I am sure you feel just awful. Especially your birthday, hopefully you'll get a chance to celebrate with laughter soon. It brought back my son's cat. He bought it for his fiancee for her birthay and when a visitor was over they went onto the balcony and let the cat follow... well it jumped and landed 13 floors down. I never saw my son cry so much since he was a little boy and he was 30 when it happened. He blamed himself for not being quick enough to save the poor we thing and as you can imagine his fiancee had a very sad birthday too as it was exactly to the day she got the cat. It may be small comfort but your little ball of love knew exactly where to go for comfort and died in the best possible place held close to your heart. My thoughts are with you.

Pinkie, how I hate hearing about the loss of a pet. I am so sorry. It just breaks my heart.

Emelie....goodness, I hope you are just overreacting about Duke. Think positive. Think positive! He's going to prove the vet wrong and live a long time, okay?

Regarding Katherine (now that we know how to spell her name), I thought the funeral was nice. But Glo's comment about being late because of parking........please.......there probably wasn't even 50 people in that church. And why didn't what's his name (Marge's friend) ask her why her voice was different? And how long had Katherine been laying in that creek? Days at least. I mean, they had to plan the funeral, etc. and she was there the whole time laying on the bank of that creek? And what's his name just happened to be fishing right there? Oh God, how I can't stand all the coincidences on that show!!!!!! And back to the name Katherine.......my grandmom spells her name Kathryn.......I like it spelled that way.

MaryW.......Oh, how I miss those days of feeling the baby move. How cool is that? I lived on chocolate, so my kids were very active. LOL

Back to pets........took Ollie to the vet last night for his yearly check up. He's 112.5 pounds! He's a small horse!!!! It was snow flurrying today and during our walk, he was covered in some snowflakes and looked so beautiful!

Okay, I am off to try to get some painting done in the bathroom. Why do projects always take me so freaking long to finish!?

MaryW: Please don't apologize. Enjoy reading your posts.
Regarding animals from shelters, I think it's just statistical that there are so many ailments now for animals that it's just the luck of the draw. Lots of people adopt animals that are with them for a lifetime. I have two, one Canadian and one American! We're at tje 8-9 year mark now. I have a cousin in Minnesota who runs a shelter, so I go by a lot of her information. Shelters, themselves, need many more volunteers who have a real love of animals.

I could add that one of our cats who has had a health problem since adoption is now free and clear and enjoying a new lease on life. All because she was allergic to grains and just by chance I tried her on a new cat food free of grains that is made here in Alberta. Cats are carnivores, so why should they be eating grains anyway?

Pinkie I'm sooo sorry about your kitten, what a heartbreak; I have heard the story a lot; adopted pets that go home with something that takes their life shortly after, I wonder if being in the shelter itself makes them catch stuff or if it's just that they have no idea what their medical histories are; regardless it's a shame to go through all it takes to adopt a pet only to lose them. However I hope this doesn't make people more reluctant to adopt from the shelter because as Cactus said, they sure do need it.

I don't remember another Katherine funeral when she was lost with amnesia in the homeless shelter? And I think I watched it too around the time of Mackenzie, but I forget a lot of Y&R stuff...
So basically this same storyline has happened before? LOL

Jack has one of the best "if looks can kill" faces in the business...

Jack and John really do truly look like father and son....

Emelie, what you said that started with Weezee....that reminded me of I Love Lucy: "Luucyyy you got sum 'splainin to do!"

Emelie I hope Duke has as much time as possible....

Emelie I agree different food and beverages make baby go crazy, and isn't it true too that whatever you consume in pregnancy they will crave when they're here? I've been trying to watch it with sweets because I don't want her to be hooked on things like sugar and pop but BOY is it hard!

As for music and sound did you know that because of the tone and/or pitch they can hear the lowness of the male voices better than high female voices? And yes I know if you play piano for them or have music on all the time they are more likely to grow up music lovers. I'll bet playing classical for them will make them smart in math!

Mary W <sorry for long post>
CO - Tue Nov 18 13:47:54 MST 2008
say, pinkie, we must've posted at the same time, because I didn't see your post until just now.
I am so sorry about the kitty. yes, pet lovers understand. give it time, my friend.
speaking of pets, I had a rather bleak realization today. As you know, Duke had his surgery in April, and in May they told us that the cancer is in his lymph nodes , and they suggested he would probably have six months or so ----------- well, to see him you wouldn't even know that he's ill --- yesterday, he and Molly chased a squirrel so fast that you'd think they were two years old. But I've noticed a very strong odour lately when he's around me, and I knew that I had smelled it before but I couldn't remember when or where ------- today it came to me. When my ex-husband died two years ago of lung cancer, we were with him the day before he died ---and I could smell "death" in the room ---- and now I can smell it on Duke's breath. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's just me projecting what the vet told us to expect --- we'll see. I hope I'm wrong.

cactus ........ I think I've spelled Katherine's name every which way but loose over the years .... didn't really know until now which way was correct. tks.

Jean .... I think we've mentioned this before, but my Christmas begins to happen, lights, tree, decorations, etc. about Dec. 15th, and is put away Dec. 27th. I don't deal with disruption very well.

Okay, I finally went to the CBS website to check out how to spell Katherine's first name, as I always seem to spell it differently. It is indeed KATHERINE. I think it would have been cooler to spell it with a "C" to go with Chancellor.

Ineresting how Nikki is now back to being called "Mrs. Newman" -- two husbands ago. Even though she is now a widow, isn't she still Mrs. Chow, unless she wants to resume her MAIDEN name?

So sorry about Mrs. P's kitty. In this case I would recommend going to the shelter and bringing home another little baby to love. There are so many that need a loving home like yours. Hugs )))))))

Susan ......... I'm expecting Ashley to be around briefly, just while the investigation goes on ....... but I don't think it will go beyond that. Just a hunch on my part, though; I haven't seen anything concrete to support this.

Another gut feeling: Esther is going to inherit BIGTIME!! Maybe Jill will be making HER a cup of tea for a change, lol. Can't you see Jill in a black maid's uniform, with a feather duster????? It would be just like Catherine to do something like that, laughing from the grave.

ol' Jacko is certainly biting his lip these days, ha ha. And the snake in the grass, Adam -------- "Weezee, yo got sum explainin' to do"!!!!!!!!

Nurse Connie ...... glad he arrived. I scanned and printed him on my own photo printer, and I'm pleased with the results --- by the way, if you check out the YouTube videos, you can watch all of the old Johnny Carson highlights, and there's one when Elvis was on the show ------ gotta admit, I loved Carson. And to see the videos with the guy from the San Diego zoo, and the animals ----- Carson is priceless. But you're right, Elvis was a heart throb, to be sure.

Mary W. --- did you know that a baby's hearing in the womb is amplified by the amniotic fluid ---- and if you drink a carbonated beverage, the baby is bombarded (not harmed, though, don't worry)with sound when the bubbles travel through your digestive system? I experimented when I was preggers with Jewel, and she was definitely more "active" after I drank a glass of Ginger Ale. To this day she loves to dance and sing, (a real karaoke queen), ----- but I ALWAYS had music playing in the house; (still do, for that matter). Good Sunny Morning everyone ... Long time no post i tried to see how long its been since i was in here and couldnt find me. Anyway Fireman Thank You for remembering my B'Day... It was and will be one of my worst Birthdays ever ...
I adopted a kitten 4 months ago and he was the BEST kitten ever he followed me like a dog always wanting to be near me He would come when i called him and was so Lovable i cant tell you how i adored him ...
He was doing good until Thursday he got sick and had to be hospitalized He had F_I_P a deadly virus passed to him from his Mother most likely ...I was stopping by to see him before and after work and that seemed to help him .. So on Sunday the vet said i could bring him home for the day ..he was given a 10% chance of surving this .. .. Well he died in my arms at 4'10am on he would have been 7months old on my B'Day .. You all know my Grief ......My Heart is broken ....
I have been so busy with My Alzheimer Lady she is such a joy to be with even tho she doesnt remember 5 mins ago ... Mr P is doing good a few problems are coming up and he will have them taken care of .I cant remember if i even said that he had the kidney surgery . He did and was back to work 4 days after even tho the Dr wanted him to take a few weeks off ... ... and still continues to work 5 days a week .... he will be 67 in Jan and I truly Believe that state of Mind is very thing to a successful recovery and a continued Happy Life ... I know people that have the littlest problem and act as if its the end of the world and just wallow in self pity .. its self destructive .... So I apologizes to all my Dear friends here who i have missed wishing continued good health or a Im so sorry for your hardships what ever they may be .. and a Congratulations to all who have good things coming there way ......
Toots.... Mary B... Nana Connie... KKO... Jean... ADB... Fireman & Mary ..Frances...Emilie.... Betty Boop..... Catus.... A Big Hug to all of You hope you continue to do well and Be as Happy as you can be .. I'm Great full to have you in my Life ....

Cactus: Yes, Katherine was in the homeless shelter when she met Mackenzie.

Can't believe how good Y & R is right now. Yesterday at the funeral was great. Everyone's thoughts was really good. Especially Jack. If he had a gun with him, Victor would be dead!!Ha!! He was even sneering at God!! Hope Jill gets what's coming to her after being so tacky to Nikki. I think she will when the will is read. That shuld be good! Maybe she will leave Nikki and Cane in charge and Jill cleaning toilets in the executive washroom!

I was a little disappointed in Ashley. She tried to be nice to Nikki, but there was a couple of digs at her. Wonder if Ashley and Abby will move into the ranch. Of course, Abby will be a teenager by now!! Oh, please, would that cause some static. Has anyone seen if Ashley is returning permanently?

Okay, does Katherine actually have amnesia now? I imagined she would be watching TV and see the news of her own funeral, then decide to play hookey for a while. Didn't she do that several years ago when she lived in a homeless shelter? I believe that is when she met Mackenzie, yes? no?

Christmas is coming earlier every year, pretty soon they will have Christmas decorations out in July LOL This year I saw them out before Halloween and people have already put lights up before Thanksgiving. I don't really mind it though, I guess people just can't wait!

I was surprised Nikki didn't speak at the funeral...

I thought the funeral was well written, very tastefully done and I loved the poem "Death is nothing at all" By the way if you google that title you can find the poem easily on the web.

In Colorado we had our first snow but boy was it barely a dusting here in town--was gone by the next day, big whoop! We are having 70 plus temps here....looks like both global warming Halloween and Thanksgiving, I will be even more sad if it's global warming Christmas too.

But for now I'm in a good mood, baby Claire moves like crazy every time I eat, what an amazing once in a lifetime experience...

I hope everyone's health issues and health issues of loved ones are on the upswing
Happy Monday to all

Ashley's dad was a tennis pro that Dina got involved with, she also left her family, moved to Paris and remarried a Mergeron who ran a European cosmetic company and came back once in awhile to try to get John back, but it never worked.Ashley met a man from Paris who was a painter that she really liked only to find out her mother had been involved with him she then met Mark Mergeron whose family was in the cosmetics business who she fell for only to find out he was her mother's stepson.

Gina was Danny Romalota's (sp) sister who once dated John Abbott whose dad "Rex" was married to Kay at one time and she ran the restaurant (Gina's)that burned with Colleen locked in the cooler.

WOW!!!!!!!!!! Convincing arguments on all sides to plan your funeral ahead of time. Funny thing, my hubby and I discussed this just the other day ....... put everything in writing, pre-arrange it all according to OUR wishes, and spare our kids' from fighting about anything. I've seen enough of control-freaks thinking only about themselves, as opposed to the wishes of the one who has died. I'll bet Nikki knew things about Catherine that Jill never had the privilege to know, and Nikki's input could only have enriched the presence of "Catherine" at CATHERINE'S funeral. I think it should have been about Mrs. C., not about Jill. JIMHO. Oh yeah, Jean --- don't you just love the rendition of Amazing Grace?!

I thought Nina and Tracey both looked like they've slimmed down. Nina was great!! I really miss her. What about Dina and Glo competing for the same man, euuuuuuuuuuu!! Please, writers, don't go there!!
On another matter, the Baldwins do show up. Did anyone else enjoy the technical aspects of the scene where old Madge's spirit slowly subsides and K's hand on the ground responds? I thought it was really well done, but that's probably the photographer in me responding.

Nurse Connie ........ pmp, Perry Como. "You know you're old when......................" , lol. Where's my letterman's sweater!! We never missed his show, along with The Gary Moore Show, (remember a very young Carol Burnett starting out?).

Mary....your right, I forgot about the bag of money, but I'm thinking that had just money in it so where did she keep her usual handbag stuff. Did she not have two???? when she left the coffee house that day???? not that it matters.

Didn't Mrs. C take Jill out of her will a while back....I seem to remember something like that, never heard anything about her being put back in so Jill could be in for quit a shock. (Like Vic and Nick)

Sorry that Eden is being replaced, must admit her whinney voice drives me crazy as does talking out the side of her mouth but she is a "mouthy teenager". Besides her and Noah do connect and with both their pasts being filled with loss they could really have a good bond between them. (murder and mayhem in both their young lives).

Nicki wanting to organize the flowers, music or anything for that matter. Regardless of how close, blood is always thicker than water especially at such times. Very least she should have asked. Jill was right to put her in her place and good she had the courage to do it at the hour of grief. So many times I have seen extended family, acquaintances, co-workers step in and dictate their two cents worth to be helpful when death occurs. Well meaning as it all may be, it is the LAST a family member gets to do for their loved ones and NOTHING should be taken away from them (regardless of how the relationship is - way to complicated to get into here). Do only what they ASK you to do. I have seen so many tears for what should and should not have been at such times. I have also seen the utmost of kindness to others who wanted to "help" in any small way. People who can "share" their grief and allow others to do really special things for the deceased when planning a funeral, speach etc... It is a beautiful gift. Just my experience and opinion.

So there are alllllways hints to the future in what the actors say. I'm wondering (not from a spoiler either) if Nikki will hold some important place in THE READING OF THE WILL to conflict with Jill.
I thought the lawyer hinted today that the will isn't as Jill thinks it will be.

Christine wasnt there because she said she's just too busy to be there. She refused the invitation to the funeral. Thought everyone looked great, Nina, and Brock and Danny, Tracy, Gina hasn't been on on the show much either.

I agree--Nikki and Kay have always been much closer than Jill and Kay; Jill is probably jealous.

I loved the funeral scene it was like a big Y&R reunion, I'll bet the cast had a great time in real life, but they really should have had Christine at the funeral, she was very close to K.

Odd that Dina and all these ppl showed up for this funeral--why wasn't anyone at John's funeral?

Is Dina a bitch? I don't remember...before my time of watching...someone fill in about Dina.

Frances don't you love watching Y&R on the 'puter--commercial free, it's only 38 mins. long. LOL yeah that was me that said ghost John should have told Jack, "Yo, Katherine's not over here!"

Y&R - Well I thought it was cruel the way Jill treated Nikki regarding planning the funeral. Even tho Jill is supposidly blood, Nikki is way dearer and closer to Mrs C.

NC, you are so right about the will. Jill didn't have a very nice look on her face when Mitchel said there were changes. I too think that Amber and Esther will get A LOT....cut Cane, Billy and Jill to the quick. But of course they will say she wasn't in sound mind.

Yep, and Mrs C will loose her memory (who hasn't on the show), live with Marges boyfriend for a while, and they will become close.

I think the plan was, because Katherine was known around the world and it was mentioned hundreds of phone calls and e-mails poured in, they decided it would a private, family only, funeral. We wondered why Ashley wanted to sit by herself, until Victor walked in, so it was planned ahead of time. I guess that was the only place that insured there would be a spot for Victor. Remember this is soap land.

Okay, I am not buying this funeral for Mrs. C - wasn't she a very well-known business woman worldwide? They needed to bring in about 1000 extras for the funeral and have them lined up around the block to make it more believable. And why was the first row of the church empty for Ashley and Victor to sit in? Wouldn't Jill have sat there?
Frances

Hmmmmm, I guess I have to rethink Nikki trying to plan Katherine's funeral. Y'all are right, she and Katherine were very close. But when it comes down to it, with Jill so remorseful, I think she should have the last chance to make things right with her mother (in her mind, anyway.)

Nina was always one of my favorite characters, too. And, yes, she still has rounded corners, as does Tracey. And I agree weight should not be an issue, such as it was with the firing of the last Colleen.

I thought it was so cool to see Madge's boyfriend looking after Katherine. Could be a good storyline here.

I see in the news that Miley Cyrus (who is almost 16) is dating a 20 year old. That would freak me out. I can't believe my grandmother didn't freak over my mom and dad (glad she didn't though).

I just got back from the doctor's. I made the appointment this morning because in the past week, I've had 2 vertigo spells. Not fun at all. Doctor said it's fall allergies and gave me nasal spray ann AntiVert (to use as needed). I hate vertigo. It's the worst!

I'm all caught up on the show. I watch it now at night on the computer. Fits my schedule better, although today I may watch it as it airs. I cannot believe Jeanne Cooper crawled into a casket for the show........I don't think I could have done that.......and the lid was closed at first also!

Deb you mentioned why nobody questioned there being two purses, if you think back you would remember that Kevin had Mrs. C's purse with all the money in it and at this point nobody has probably thougth of looking at luggage.

I do think it weird that Jeanne Cooper's 80th birthday celebration occured while they had everyone together to have her funeral on the show. What a way to celebrate!

I felt sorry for Nickie as she had know Kay for years and had always been like a daughter to her and needed to grieve, Jill yes is her daughter as far as we now know, but she never was really kind to her mother and I doubht she knew her mother's favorite hymn was Amazing Grace and being as stubborn as she can be probably won't have it played at the funera. Ana could have sang it for that matter.

Jean ...... I remember when your SIL died, and how odd it was that she requested that in her last wishes. Sad how hatred will take over someone's logic.

Cactus ...... we were driving home from Cambridge yday, listening to Y & R simulcast on the radio, and I could hear the music at the end but there was no dialogue ...... gotta watch it today on the American CBS broadcast at noon to see it all .......... funny hearing the old actors' voices ....... is Nina still as big? She was one of my faves in the old days, and I wish they'd kept her, imperfections and all. One thing I can guarantee --- when Victor leaves the show, I'm gone too. As much as I like Nicholas and Sharon, and how they're "inheriting" the "Victor-Nikki" mantra, they're not compelling enough for me to stay.

I agree about the casket scene. Kudos to Jeanne Cooper for doing it.

We visited a pet cemetary this past summer, and eventually I'll look into pricing a plot for our three dogs ashes to be buried together. I couldn't believe how elaborate some of the headstones/memorials are. If anyone is interested in seeing some photos, it's at www.sandyrpetcem.com
Would you believe it's in Eden, Ontario? One husband and wife bought a plot and were buried there, with their dog's remains.

EWWWW How creepy for Jeanne Cooper to have to lay in that casket! Sheesh the things the actors have to do sometimes...she did a good job not breathing!

I luuuuuuuvvv Amber and Daniel together in that little studio apt....

I thought Phyllis' tantrum looked FUN I would LOVE to do that sometime but have never even come close.....

Dangit! Just when I was really liking Eden and Noah's chemistry together, they hafta go and change it?

Actually now that I think about it, in hindsight Ashley and Victor suddenly getting together and Victor wants to spend his life with her, after all this time of no contact whatsoever is a BIT far-fetched...

Jean that is so unfortunate about your SIL, and what a last wish--that is tacky to the hilt. Sheesh, you would think she had more things to worry about than where you were going to sit at the funeral....amazing what hate will do, such an ugly thing.

Get ready for lots of black today. LOL at what Phyl is wearing UNDER her jacket ... or shall I say isn't wearing. Was fun seeing all the former actors.

Enjoyed the couple of surprises at the end!!!!!! but won't tell.

I thought the actor playing Eden was getting better. She has an odd delivery though, I thought, sort of talks out of the side of her mouth. It seems in the history of Y & R that the first replacement of an actor usually sucks. Then that actor disappears, only to reappear as another actor, and then they get it right.

Mary - I wasn't sure how to spell Crissom/Ghrisom....either!!
I have my dog's paw print in clay and her ashes in a little urn. I did open the urn (didn't know you weren't supposed to!!) Anyway, it was glued shut so I broke the top...DUH!! Couldn't beleive the tiny little plastic bag that contained my beloved girl. Cried more over that....seemed she'd been reduced to nothing. The kids loved the paw print though and to this day it is very special to them. My other dog still whines when he sniffs around it.

Our vet also has a virtual pet memorial on their site...like that idea.

As for Mrs. C... I missed the episode where Jill/Nicki found the car (Can't beleive that!). But what about the suitcase of clothes Marge was taking to the hospital. What about there being two handbags in the car....surely the real Mrs. C did not take it all with her when she went wandering into the night (guessing at that). There are so many ways to KNOW there was more than one person in a car...I just wish the writers would be more creative with how things happen.

As for Ashley and Victor,.....little Sl-t. When are we most emotionally vulnerable....when we are grieving, mind you Victor was quick off the mark to get l--d. He is such an emotionless actor, I can't beleive sometimes he is still around....but I remember way back when... he was hot and with the accent he had then oooooooo sure liked him.

Y&R - can't stand the actress or character of Eden

Emelie - we received three contracts within the first couple of weeks of when we were selling our old house. It is on the market again, for 6 months now and hasn't sold. They did do some funky paint colors to the interior, doesn't show well, IMO, but I think it is the market. That is great news for you.

MaryW - Dan's sister had acute leukemia. She was 48. Oh, you should have been on the board three years ago when she died. She hated me, and her last wishes were to not let me sit with the immediate family at the funeral. Half way thru I got up and sat with Dan. Someone new in chat started picking on me for doing that, and the regulars here circled the wagons. Great bunch in here.

Monopoly - God did I spell it right this time?? (obviously I don't do spell check). As kids, we all fought like cats and dogs while playing, screaming about someone buying and breaking up your properties. My mother warned us to stop it or the game would get thrown away. Well.......one day we were fighting, and she picked up the board, and threw it out the back door. Must have been a bad hair, and PMS day for her. LOL

The most recent thing I've seen re deceased pets is their paw print
cast in clay, then mounted in a frame with their name and/or photo ............. I like that. Miss Tippy's ashes are in a teak box with her name engraved on top, with her collar and dogtags around it, sitting in a wicker basket with a plaid cushion. Then there is a framed 8x10 photo of her propped up behind her, and it all sits on the fireplace mantel. We'll do that with Molly & Duke, too, when the time comes ........... and then the three of them will be "together" again.

My hubby is getting a real kick out of Jeannie Cooper's dual role these days.

We got an offer on our Cambridge house today........... counter-offer in the wind at the moment ........ we're pleased at the activity, as it's only been on the market 13 days. In this market, that's a good sign.

Jean ITA, half the fun of Monopoly as a kid was being the banker and counting the money. Yet another way that modern technology has steered kids away from counting and math

At Sylvan, the tutoring place, we had to do away with spell check on the computer that the kids were typing their essays on because kids don't know how to spell anymore!

Nurse Connie is Jason your son, and you guys bought him a house? That is extremely generous...sheesh I've got the wrong parents!

Jean did Dan's sister die tragically at a young age?

You use a debit card instead of paper money. I think it would take the fun out of it. I LOVE collecting the moola.

Y&R - regarding the French....I've been told by many that have been there numerous times, that if you make an attempt to speak French, they will help you out by speaking English. But if you assume they are SUPPOSE to speak English, they will play dumb.

Frances - a necklace for ashes....hmmm, NO! And as for getting into his ashes...hmmmm NO again. Let sleeping dogs lie (did I say that, LOL). Now Dans parents and his sister's husband divided her ashes. I thought that was GROSS!! It is like, to me anyway, hey do you want her right arm or left, how about the legs, want a foot? I think of ashes as still a body. Probably you all might disagree. And I had my dads ashes in the garage for a few years....didn't really know his wishes. (he is in a nitch in our home town now)....but I would sit out there and talk to him....now I can't....so I wish in a way he was still in the garage. LOLOL Okay, enough.

DEB - I think his name is Grishman....and yes, he or anyone else other than in GC, would know something ain't right.

NC - Charlie bought a house......and you don't have your dishwasher!!?!?!? Ain't right I tell ya...I would tan his hide, make him do the dishes by hand every single day, and ya know Thanksgiving is coming up. That would make him drive to Home Depot real quick. heheh

Later - I see the light at the end of the tunnel regarding laundry. How can two people go thru sooooo many clothes??? Maybe meatloaf for dinner??? Mac and cheese, oh, yeah.

When Ashley was going up to people asking if they had seen Victor, she would greet them in French, then start speaking English and they would completely understand, then she'd say thank you in French......that made NO sense to me.

Jean, welcome back! I've missed you! Hey, I also talk to Sherman's ashes. They are in a wooden container sitting on top of the piano in the dining room. I have been saying for years that I have to get a little plaque to put on it with his name, but I never get around to doing it. I just saw in a catalog where you can get a necklace that holds a tiny bit of your pet's ashes........not sure how I feel about that. Wouldn't want to open that box to get the ashes out! Strange!

I LOVE Nick and Sharon together. Nick was actually looking hot in Paris. And Victor and Ashley just make me laugh. He is only good with Nikki, I don't like him with anyone else.

The strongest bond Nick and Phyllis ever had, starting with their affair days, was s-e-x. I KNEW she would use it as a weapon to keep him. I have hope now, though, that the writers are going to get us back to Nick and Sharon eventually.

Why didn't Nikki just ASK Jill if she could help, rather than just take over. Ordering the flowers? Picking the music? I'd be annoyed too if I were Jill.

Do we know where Katherine is yet? Or will we just get a surprise and suddenly see her at Madge's home?

The Hounds of Baskerville are nipping at Jack's heels.

Heather will have to prosecute Adam. What if they were married? I'm not sure how the law works.

Veterans day - While at our festival Veterans day rolls around. Vets give out poppies in front of the grocery stores, and we give donations. I wear it all day long. Two uncles in WWII. Another reincarnation story for the Y&R....why can't John tell Jack what Gloria did with the cream and let Jack get the company back......mind you he might be going to jail for his part in the dairy soon.....oopps my mistake nobody goes to jail on Y&R for anything.....well least not for long.

I think Jill played her part well the last few days and way to go telling Nicki off.......suppose that storyline is going to go with Jill and Nicki being enemies now because Nicki "prevented" her from calling the police in to look for Catherine.

Scrabble, (my favourite); Cribbage; Euchre; Clue; Checkers; Trivial Pursuit; I bought one when I was in England called The Captain's Mistress ---- it sounds risque' but it isn't --- supposedly a ship's captain played it in his cabin and wouldn't come out to sail the ship, because he was so intrigued in winning the game. I've tried to find a copy of it in North America, but can't.

Fireman grew up playing cribbage with his grandparents and he has many fond memories of it.

I like scrabble, rummy cube, yatzee, uno, skip bo, pictionary. Since I was an only child I didn't play games a lot growing up, but when I did those were the games I liked. I do remember playing checkers with my grandfather. Fireman and I when we were first married spent many weekend evenings playing scrabble or rummy cube with a young unwed mother who lived next to us who would come over with her son and he and my oldest daughter would visit. It was cheap entertainment and we had a lot of fun.

I think Kay will end up with her look alikes friend, maybe have more fun and love of life than she has had in years.

MaryW: I used to think Dewey was a nickname. Its source is Dewi, a Welsh name meaning "Beloved." To my surprise, the name Dewey ranked 434th in popularity for males of all ages in a sample of the 1990 US Census. Though this name has fluctuated in use, it has been quietly present throughout the last century. I personally have never met a Dewey!

Board Games: I think the only reason my grandchildren know board games is because we always take some along when we go camping. Gosh, I grew up with board games. Now it's all about dare I say "mindless" video games. Did anyone ever play "Risk"? We used to play that as young married couples! I see there is a new and faster version out now. I loved Scrabble, but not Monopoly. For fun, Pictionary and Balderdash. Anyone relate? There are probably others I have just forgotten.

My Uncle Fred was another one who never wanted to talk about the War. Can't imagine losing so many good buddies and all the horror was something to be relived. He passed away this year at 93. No, I don't think kids today really understand. And we are now a country at war with our young men and women giving their lives in Afghanistan. I don't know about other Canadians, but I feel the average person doesn't relate unless they have relatives in the military.

Attended the Remembrance Day Service in our small community and was amazed and humbled that our high school school gym was packed and even with extra chairs brought out, still people standing. A new "tradition" now is that after the formal wreath-laying ceremony at our cenotaph, all the rest of us take our poppies off our lapels and put them into the wreaths. Soon you have a sea of red. Very emotional day! Enjoyed everyone's comments.

On to Y & R, I missed the car crash, just the results. Where is Katherine, anyway? Will she be acting as Marge now? Is she pulling a Victor? Could result in a romance story line for her with Marge's male friend. That would be neat.

YAY, is there a chance for Nick and Sharon? Sorry, Phyllis and Nick lovers, I guess I am still an old romantic at heart, having followed the Nick and Sharon story from the time they were teens, him the rich kid and her from the "wrong side of the tracks." When I was a child I remember people selling poppies on Main street for Veterans day. I always thought of veterans when I saw those paper poppies. Now you see them at estate sales sometimes. When we were in Australia we visited the veterans memorial in Canberra. It was a beautiful building in a beautiful spot. Each vets name was on a wall and some had poppies attached to the name. They said there were poppy sales in memory of vets.

I forgot to mention about Veteran's Day...but dad's grave has a flag on it as many others around him do too...dad was a Marine 1940-1948...and that strong protectiveness comes from his time there that all of kids follow with the displaying of the flag and know how hard he fought along with others during that time and how very proud he was of our country...one of the most treasured things I have are his metals.
David my brother was of the Vietnam war and was there 11 days before a direct mortor hit, loss of leg and badly mangled...but when Dessert Storm occured several years ago he tried to enlist again to help our country...he may be a pond scum to an extend but he supports our country...
Geesh I didn't mean to get carried away...but the previous post brought back sooooooooo many memories...one last thing...one thing Bill Clinton did for me was to send a beautiful plaque at dad's death commeorating his service time (proably routine at a military funeral) but it means the world to me.

Cactus: Thanks for sharing the lovely poem with us. So many youth of today do not remember or care to remember. Maybe in part, because our parents never wanted to share the horrors of the wars. I, for one, have pried some things from my dad, before he passed. WWII Pacific Theater, USS WASP carrier. I did the Vietnam conflict 1971 to 1975.

Emilie, Thank You also for sharing with us, the poppy story. We can learn so much on here if we only listen. Our federal government shuts down on this, our Veteran' Day. Many parades and solemn ceremonies.

NC, Ref Y&R: OK it is story line and needs to be shown (so as not to waste tape) but yes, approaching a vehicle needs to be done, walking, observing, and always assume there is more then one person in a vehicle, until you are certain there is not. NEVER pull a person from a vehicle, unless it is on fire or other potential situations warrant doing so. More damage is done, cervical spine damage when taken from any area a person has fallen or had an accident. If you must move a person, always try to move them INLINE from under arms, never side to side. OK said enough.

I just saw the bit on the news about Regis Philbin explaining to Kelly Rippa (sp?) about the significance to Canadians of the poppy, and how we wear them on our lapel Nov. 1 - Nov. 11, to honour our fallen soldiers. I had forgotten that Americans don't follow this tradition, with the poppy on their lapel. Regis had been in Toronto (Mississauga, actually, just outside of Toronto) on the weekend, and took one of our poppies back home with him. Good for you, Regis.

"In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you with failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields."

Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD

Mary: Here's the problem I have with plumbers...why don't they wear overalls???? It's bad enough that they charge outrageous prices, but then we have to look at their hairy butt cleavage!!! I think they do it on purpose. If they have to fix our stopped up toilets, we have to suffer too!!

I'm still a little behind Y&R. Phyllis going to surprise Nick in Paris...wonder who will be surprised. I'm enjoying River and Gloria memory lane...I guess because it was my era. They were exciting times. I'm not enjoying Katherine/Madge. Didn't like it the first time around, like it even less now.

Say a prayer for my co-worker and her family as the murder trial involving her daughter who was shot by her husband in front of their two young children(happened two years ago this Feb)will hopefully come to a conclusion tomorrow. Ladybug ........ our electoral system is identical to England's, dating back to our days as a "colony", lol. We have three main political parties, and each party is represented in various "ridings" within a province by an elected 'member of parliament', (the most ridings being in the most populated cities). Ontario and Quebec have the most ridings, which gives them the greatest clout in our central ruling Parliament, in Ottawa. When we have a Federal election, as we did a few weeks ago, we vote for our local Member of Parliament. Whichever of the three main parties gets the most MPs elected, wins the election, and the leader of that party becomes Prime Minister. The party that gets the next many MPs elected is the Parliamentary Opposition party, ............ clear as mud, yes? We don't actually vote for a person to be Prime Minister ---- the leader of the party that wins the most "seats" in Parliament becomes Prime Minister by default. Hope I've answered your question.

Frances ...... somehow I thought you would agree with me, ;-}
I think Tina Turner was quite enjoying herself, lol.

God Bless Mr. Obama and I hope and pray that he is given guidance to heal a country in such dire need, if only his gram could have been allowed another day.I found the footage of the people watching his speech very heartwarming. McCain's speech was one of the best I ever heard him give.
Mary

Mary W: Actually, area wise, there is more red on the map than blue....but land doesn't vote, people do. Hawaii, for example is just a dot, yet they have 4 electoral votes, Alaska, which is the biggest state, only has 3 electoral votes. That's because there are more people in Hawaii than in Alaska. The population of Alaska is one tenth of New York City. I've walked half the length of NYC in just a few hours. 75% of the population of the U.S. lives within 50 miles of either coast.

The population of Genoa City is about 30...which is why they keep switching partners...which is why when Nick dumps Phyllis he'll go back to Sharon and Jack will probably go back to Phyllis and Victor will go back with Ashley or Nikki.

Emelie or Cactus: Are your people elected by popular vote or do you have a form of electoral college?

lady bug

emelie.....I checked him out and he's a cutie for sure.

MaryW..... Each state has a certain amount of electoral votes, and if a candidate wins that state, then he gets those votes. Most of the midwestern states only have like 3 or 5 electoral votes. I think California has 55 and Texas 34, something like that. So McCain could have a bunch of states that only have 3 or 5 votes and Obama could have California and Texas that would add up to almost 100 right there. I don't know if I am making any sense at all. Maybe someone else can explain it better or you could google it I'm sure.

Cactus I think there's light stuff served at the coffeehouse like sandwiches, snacks etc. but yes definitely not a five star restaurant or anything. But I'll bet all business are suffering right now...people much less willing to pay five dollars for a cup of coffee. Thank god gas has gone down!! I heard it was under 2 bucks in some places?!

Ashley has had a history of being quite the delicate flower, hasn't she?

I was so surprised when someone posted that DINA is coming for a visit? And Nina and Brock? Does that include Nina's Phillip? Should be interesting....

I always liked Nina and Tracy because they weren't size 0's and look more like real women's sizes!

Ladybug I'm glad it's over too, the amount of commercials and mail and phone calls for this race was RIDICULOUS and I've never seen it done to that extreme before. Interesting thing if you look at the map of red and blue states....red is McCain and blue is Obama...it almost looked like more space in the whole country was red? Maybe because the bigger states were red? Did anyone else notice that?

It seems to me as a Canadian, that my American friends, no matter how you voted, are embarking upon a new era. I enjoyed watching the whole kit and caboodle last night. Wonderful speeches by both candidates.
Our political system couldn't more different than yours! Our entire process lasts only 5 weeks or so, from beginning to end. You get to vote for your President, big and bold. We have to vote for our local member of Parliament (about 5 or 6 to choose from)for our constituency. Whichever party gets the most members across Canada, gets their leader for our Prime Minister. And our elections are publically funded and closely monitored, no big corporate sponsors, etc.

Victor and Ashley did have another child besides Abby.Way back Ashley found out her real dad wasn't John Abbott, but a tennis pro named Brent Davis. When he announced it to her she was so shaken by the news that she lost her memory. She left town and ended up working at a diner where Victor found her and brought her back to the ranch to recuperate with he and Nikki. Victor and Ashley were attracted to each other, Nikki had an affair with Jack to get back at Victor and Nikki tried to fix Ashley up with his brother, but it didn't work. Victor and Nikki separated and Ashley learned she was pregnant by Victor, but before she could tell him Victor went back with Nikki because she had an incurable illness and he wanted to make her last days happy. Ashley had an abortion and in the meantime Victor found out Nikki was actually getting better, but was faking her illness. Victor left her to go to Ashley, but he found out about the abortion and had it out with her. Ashley again lost her memory and left town. John found her in a mental institution and brought her back to G. City to a mental home there. She recovered and the doctor she had fell in love with her and they married.

Wow...I'm the odd man out here...LOL! I was the "Ferris Bueller" of mothers! I let my daughter take off school whenever she wanted. Sometimes I even encouraged it. On a beautiful day we'd go do something fun, go to the beach, see a movie, shopping, etc. I never hesitated to take her out of school for a week or two to go on a trip. I'd write her teachers notes for being absent, tardy, no homework, etc. One year her teacher wrote me a note saying "Don't write me anymore notes!!" Anyway, it all worked out fine. For one thing, she was rarely ever sick. I think she had less than half a dozen sick days from K-8. I think sometimes kids don't feel like going to school so they get sick instead. She did well enough in school to get into a good college. In fact, listing off all the places she'd been to, cities, countries, museums, etc...actually helped her get accepted. She graduated, has had great jobs, but is now happily married and a stay-at-home mom to the sweetest little girl east of the Mississippi! And she's never been in any kind of trouble. I think being a good parent is about following your instincts and giving them all the love and attention they need.

Nurse connie ............ that trunk or treat idea is great.!!

When the Toronto Blue Jays won the world series, I asked my boss if I could take a day of my vacation time, and I took my daughter to Skydome to wait for the team to arrive for a victory celebration post
victory parade. And yes, Jewel missed a day of school. But we had to get up at 4 a.m. to get the earliest bus that was running, and we were the first ones in line to get into the stadium in order to get a good seat. I felt that it was a memorable event, being the first time a Canadian city won the World Series, and I wanted Jewel to experience it firsthand. We had been to several games together over the season, and with all of the "field trips" that schools take their students on, I figured it was justified. Does that make ME a bad parent? Just a different perspective.

As for the fans acting like morons, ........ it's universal. Look at the crazed soccer and rugby fans in Europe that cause stadium seating to cave in with their rowdiness. I blame it on the sale of booze in the stadium. Frances, I totally agree with you on this matter -------- and I think they should STOP selling liquor to the fans. They already search your purses and bags when you go through the turnstile , looking for contraband booze (because they don't want competition at the concession stands), so their only argument against abstinence is the loss of $$$$. Surprise, surprise!!! It's about money. Isn't everything these days?

Happy Halloween to All!

I am not into sports, but I do understand being happy your team won, especially if it is a BIG win or one that hasn't happened in years (like the Red Sox), but I don't go for the rowdiness that accompanies some of these wins. It's not just kids either and I know that if it were" MY" car or property or that of someone I know and care about I would definitely not appreciate it being turned upside down or damage being done. I believe you can have fun without causing a disturbance.

As far as taking time off from school to attend a parade, No way! We didn't even take trips while the school year was in session, my girls even with asthma managed to have 8 and 4 years of perfect attendence when they graduated high school and were honor students with a wide variety of interest in music of all types instrumental and vocal, plus other activities and hobbies. We always believed education came first. We were lucky that they had good heads on their shoulders, good friends, and a sense of respect and caring for others and we have never had any problems with them.

adb......I am actually happy for the Phillies, even though I don't give a damn at all about sports. What I hate is how the fans in Philly act. No wonder they have a bad reputation. You are not here in the middle of it all. Just driving through my town....30 miles outside of Philly.......you can see how destructive everyone was after the win on Wednesday. It's disgusting!!!!! It's stupid how "fans" react. Even the mayor of Philly was pissed. So go ahead and celebrate out on the West Coast and be happy. I'm glad you're enjoying it all!! :)

I have to mute the TV every time they show Jack making that ridiculous tape in that ridiculous voice....

Frances of course you're not a bad mom--what's amazing to me is that the kids usually like to go to school on Halloween...no matter what age.

We have had the same problems in Denver when sports teams win, for some reason it makes people go crazy and want to destroy things....what's up with that?? I think it has something to do with our animalistic something or other, like it was with the gladiator and coliseum days...

Trunk Or Treat sounds like a great idea!

Toots,I don't think I knew your husband was military. What branch? Harry's retired Air Force, as I think you know.

I watched about 2 minutes of the parade (it's going on now). The news anchor was going on and on about how the city has come together for this, it's what Philly needs since there is always so much violence in the city........HELLLLOOOOOOOO!!!! There was major violence in Philly the night the Phillies won when all the crazed fans broke into businesses, overturned cars (which as I posted before happened in my town). I just don't get it. The Phillies win so it means you have to destroy the City? So freaking stupid. Okay, I'm done. And of course, the soap is not on because of the parade.

Anybody watch Regis & Kelly this morning? Kelly's a nut...it was too funny!

adb at our church we have a fall harvest party with trunk or treats...folks line their cars up in two rolls (30-40)...we decorate the trunks and the kids go to each car and get their treats...we also have some of those blow up tent things were they can bounce around...
